What is R134a Refrigerant?R134a refers to the refrigerant gas used in chiller/air condition compressors.It is a common refrigerant that is used in many air conditioning applications.
Due to the nature of R134a properties which is of a HFC (hydrofluorocarbon) refrigerant, it does not have any ozone depletion potential and has little greenhouse effect.
Directions for Use:
During/after transporting and/or fixing up the chiller, allow it to stand upright for at least 3-6 hours before powering it up. This reduces unnecessary damage by allowing the oil and fluid to flow back into the compressor.
Do not place the chiller outdoors or near any heat source.
Do not place the chiller in enclosed cabinets.
Place the chiller approximately 30cm away from walls to facilitate ventilation.
Do not cover the chiller while it is in operation as this will cause over-heating.
For use with marine setups, it is recommended to install the chiller after the filtration systems. This is to ensure the durability and function of the evaporator.
Regular maintenance of the circulating systems, front draft hood and air filters are advised at once every month.
For troubleshooting of issues such as not being able to power on the unit, faulty powering issues, lack of refrigeration, or loud noises / vibration from the unit. Please refer to the instructions booklet for suggestions on basic problem solving.

JBL ProTemp S aquarium heaters use modern technology for both freshwater and marine tanks. A protective plastic guard prevents fish burns and protects the quartz glass. 1. Heater feels only warm underwaterNormal. Heat is quickly dispersed into water, so it feels mild. Out of water, it heats up fast and can get very hot. Always unplug before removing from water.
2. Temperature not stable / big deviationHeater accuracy is about ±0.5°C (up to ~1–1.5°C with measurement differences). Large deviations (5–7°C) usually mean incorrect adjustment, poor water flow around heater or faulty unit
3. Protective basket deformedCaused by limescale buildup, which traps heat and leads to overheating.Solution: Regularly descale (e.g. with JBL Clean A or pH Minus).
4. Do I still need to unplug during water change?Yes. The safety switch is only backup protection, not a replacement for unplugging.
5. Can I replace the basket?Yes, basket parts are sold separately (end, middle, and top sections with suction cups).

Before switching on, ensure that the heater is immersed in water at least up to the marking for the minimum immersion depth.
Wait approx. 30 minutes before switching on so that the thermostat can adjust to the temperature of the water.
Route the power connection cable such that it forms a drip loop!
To Switch on: Connect the unit to the mains. The unit switches on immediately.
To switch off: Disconnect the unit from the mains.
